Why Our Dyslexia Friendly App Helps Students With Reading Practice

omoguru

Each dyslexic has a unique reading style. That’s why we provide a custom reading setup of the text. This makes the Omoguru Reader perfect for reading and fluency practice. Whether kids practice at school or at home.

Selecting a font type from A to E respectively helps with decoding words. Setting up line heights, the spacing between letters and color marking of syllables makes the text more readable in a couple of minutes for the first setup.

Read and Learn Easier With Omoguru

The whole purpose of our mobile reading app is to support students during their learning to read process. Some of the middle and upper school reading list books are available in the app in the preloaded library. Also, preloaded is a library of over 170 short stories for grades 3 to 8.

Apart from school reading, there is an option to take a picture of the textbook and convert it to digital. Still, that feature doesn’t yet provide the ability to customize the text but the text will appear according to created reading setup. However, the research we did with our dyslexia friendly font and readability shows middle schoolers read better with OmoType. Which is a great start.

The data of over 150 000 pages read in the last 15 months also supports this. In other words, dyslexics read a book a day with our app. To us that is amazing!

The benefits Omoguru Reader provides are:

  • Easier reading – Use preloaded or own texts for school reading and fluency practice.
  • Easier learning – Collect notes from e-books or from printed textbooks. Learn or write papers and school reports easier.

Dyslexia App Tested With Kids

Any dyslexic reads easier with Omoguru. The most support is provided for middle and upper schoolers and higher education. Some use cases were observed at Mary McDowell Friends School for students with learning disabilities that confirm its value.

Similar reports come from dyslexics of various ages who tried the app.

Testing, done in February in New York, showed kids age 10 to 14 really like the possibility to have control over their reading setup. “One of the children, before he started reading on the app, constantly went on – I can’t read, I can’t read. He started reading and at one point exclaimed I can see!” the report says. And this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

Owen Kowalski who shares tips and advice to help dyslexic of all ages through his The Life Dyslexic blog was also pleasantly surprised. Even though he was skeptical at first he found experience is much better than on previous digital readers. His opinion is that the app would make a huge asset to more digitally orientated dyslexics.

We’re currently working on implementing a few pilots in schools to better understand how we can improve students’ experience. We would be happy to reach more schools and provide this amazing tool that students, parents, and schools already recognized.

The main benefit for schools is that we can create their digital library within our app and make books available to all kids in a school.
